Why not AI?

We at Melody object to the use AI for many reasons, and ban all uses of it in out projects. Of the upmost concern is AI's severe enviromental impact, both worldwide and on local levels. Areas surrounding datacenters have become tarnished and unlivable due to the rampent polution, obviously harming those who are already housed in those areas. In addition, we see AI as detrimental to open source as a whole. It steals code from existing FOSS projects, disrespecting the authors of those projects as well as the licenses they're published under. Also of note is the effect AI has on the prices of tech products such as PC parts.

There are also the ethical/legal concerns about AI and its output, given that they stole their training data by scraping it from the web, and violating all of the licenses there are many legal questions that come to play, let alone the moral implications of all of the mass theft the corperations have participated in.

As if that were not enough, LLMs tend to output low quality, inefficient code, and our community deserves better. We all do. AI damages the minds of those who use it, and we don't want that for ourselves either.

Finally, the harm it's doing to communities is evident, as trust in orginizations and other users waver, and accusations of AI use get tossed around. We wish build an enviroment that rejects "tech bro" ethics (or lack thereof) from day one, leaving no room for fascist or fascism adjacent ideals.
